The Dwarf buckeye (Aesculus parviflora) is a runner-forming, broad, dense large shrub that produces white flowers arranged in panicles. They appear from July to August. The Dwarf buckeye also has pinnate, palmate, medium-green leaves. The bronze-coloured shoots are also an interesting sight. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 5 metres and grows to a width of around 7 metres.

Growth

Dwarf buckeye is a runner-forming, broad and densely growing large shrub with an opaque crown. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 5 m and is approx. 5 - 7 m wide. It usually grows 10 - 15 cm per year.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of Dwarf buckeye are medium green, pinnate, palmate, opposite. They are about 8 - 20 cm tall. Bronze-coloured shoots. Dwarf buckeye turns bright yellow in autumn.

Flower

The white flowers of Dwarf buckeye appear in panicles from July to August.

Root

Aesculus parviflora is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Dwarf buckeye has good frost hardiness.
