Weigela florida 'Purpurea'

Weigela 'Purpurea' is a bushy and upright growing small shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1 - 1.5 m and is approx. 1 - 1.5 m wide. Rapidly growing.

The shoots of Weigela florida 'Purpurea' are pithy.

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of the Weigela 'Purpurea' are green-red, lanceolate, opposite. They are about 6 - 10 cm tall. Bronze-coloured shoots. Weigela 'Purpurea' turns bright red-brown in autumn. Long lasting.

The pink-red, funnel-shaped flowers appear from June to July. These grow to about 2 - 3 cm in size.

Weigela florida 'Purpurea' is a shallow-rooting plant.

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Weigela 'Purpurea' has good frost hardiness.

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
- Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.
- Thinning pruning is recommended, in which only the shoots that are too dense are removed.

This plant is tolerant of pruning.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
