The Weigela (Weigela florida) is a bushy, upright large shrub that produces pink-coloured, funnel-shaped flowers. They appear from May to June. The Weigela also has egg-shaped, light green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 3.5 metres and grows to around 4 metres wide.

Weigela is a bushy and upright growing large shrub. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 3.5 m and is approx. 3 - 4 m wide.

The shoots of Weigela florida are pithy.

The deciduous leaves of Weigela are light green, ovate and opposite. They are about 6 - 10 cm in size. Long adherent.

Flower

The pink-coloured, funnel-shaped flowers appear from May to June. These grow to about 2 - 3 cm in size.

Weigela florida is a shallow-rooting plant.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Weigela has good frost hardiness.

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
- Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.
- Thinning pruning is recommended, in which only the shoots that are too dense are removed.
