The Goat willow (Salix caprea) is a large, rounded shrub that produces yellow or silvery flowers with a pleasant fragrance. They appear from March to April. The Goat willow also has hairy, egg-shaped, medium-green leaves. Its bark is grey-green. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, acidic, moist to wet, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 8 metres and grows to a width of around 6 metres.

The deciduous leaves of the Goat willow are medium green, ovate, hairy, alternate. They are about 8 - 10 cm in size. Goat willow turns bright yellow in autumn.

The yellow, silvery flowers appear from March to April. They are pleasantly fragrant.

Root

Salix caprea is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Care

- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
- Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.
- Prune back vigorously after flowering.
