Hyacinth, Crocus, and Co. – Spring Gets Colorful

"Where do you feel most at home for Easter? Right, in your own garden. There, you can welcome spring and enjoy the first sunbeams. With the right plants in the garden, Easter becomes especially colorful.

Everyone knows the feeling: when you see the first early bloomer, you automatically think of spring, sun, fresh scents, and Easter. Outdoors, hyacinths, crocuses, and the like make the garden even more festive for Easter."

The Enchanting Beauty

One of the absolute harbingers of spring and Easter flowers is the hyacinth. This oriental beauty originally comes from the Mediterranean region and has captivated people for hundreds of years with its beauty and intensely floral scent.

Did you know? The hyacinth owes its name to Greek mythology. Hyakinthos could charm both humans and gods with his beauty, and the hyacinth has had the same effect ever since it arrived by ship on the Dutch coast in the late 17th century.

The Easy-Care Companion

When Easter is around the corner, it's high time for the crocus to poke its head out and enjoy the first warm sunbeams. The crocus represents spring and clearly shows us that it's finally getting warmer. Once planted, the crocus requires no special care, making it an undemanding companion in the spring garden.

By the way: our saffron, which we know from the kitchen, comes from the saffron crocus. That one is an autumn-bloomer, and its orange thread-like stamens are dried and sold.

Plush Harbinger of Spring

The Pussy Willow (Kätzchen-Weide) is also among the harbingers of spring. Even though its "kittens" look rather plush and well-wrapped, Easter is quite near when the pussy willow blooms. The pussy willow has two faces: individual plants bear either only male or only female catkins. The male inflorescences are generally larger and covered all over with yellow stamens. The female catkins are silvery-gray.
