The Ninebark 'Diabolo'® (Physocarpus opulifolius) is a bushy, upright, deciduous shrub with decorative, egg-shaped, dark red leaves. It also bears white flowers arranged in umbels from May to June. These produce red fruits from September. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained soil, it usually reaches a height of around 3 metres and grows to a width of around 3 metres.

Ninebark 'Diabolo'® is a bushy and upright growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 2 - 3 m and is approx. 2 - 3 m wide. Rapidly growing. It usually grows 30 - 40 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo'® are light brown in colour.

Leaves

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of Ninebark 'Diabolo'® are dark red, ovate, alternate, lobed. They are about 5 - 10 cm in size. Ninebark 'Diabolo'® turns bright orange-red in autumn.

Bark

Exfoliating bark.

Flower

The white flowers of Ninebark 'Diabolo'® appear in umbels from May to June.

Root

Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo'® is a heartroot and, depending on the soil, forms sparsely branched roots.
