The Italian honeysuckle (Lonicera caprifolium) is a climbing, deciduous plant with decorative, orange-red fruits. These exude a pleasant fragrance. It produces light yellow, tubular flowers arranged in whorls from May to July. The Italian honeysuckle also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 8 metres and grows to a width of around 3 metres.

Growth

Italian honeysuckle is a climbing plant that can reach a height of 3 - 8 m and a width of 1 - 3 m.

The deciduous leaves of the Italian honeysuckle are dark green, ovate, with entire margins. They are about 4 - 10 cm in size.

Flower

The light yellow, tubular flowers of Italian honeysuckle appear in whorls from May to July. They are pleasantly fragrant.

Fruit

The orange-red fruits of Lonicera caprifolium are particularly decorative. These appear from September.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Italian honeysuckle has good frost hardiness.

Care
