The Honeysuckle (Lonicera heckrottii) is a bushy, climbing, deciduous plant with decorative, red fruits. These exude a pleasant fragrance. It produces carmine-red, tubular flowers arranged in whorls from June to September. With the right care, the Honeysuckle blooms again from October to November. The Honeysuckle also has egg-shaped, blue-green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 4 metres and grows to around 3 metres wide.

Growth

Honeysuckle is a bushy, climbing plant that can reach a height of 2 - 4 metres and a width of 1.5 - 3 metres. It usually grows 30 - 50 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Lonicera heckrottii are purple-red.

The deciduous leaves of the Honeysuckle are blue-green, ovate and opposite. They are about 8 - 10 cm in size.

Flower

The carmine-red, tubular flowers of Honeysuckle appear in whorls from June to September. These are pleasantly fragrant. With the right care, re-flowering from October to November.

Fruit

The red fruits of Lonicera heckrottii are particularly decorative.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Care

- Nets, rods or trellises - many materials are suitable as climbing aids for delicate climbing plants. However, it is important that the main shoots of the plants are securely attached.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
