The Portugal laurel (Prunus lusitanica) is an irregular, picturesque large shrub that produces white flowers arranged in clusters. They appear from June to July. These produce black, oval fruits from September. The Portugal laurel also has shiny, lanceolate, dark green leaves. Its bark is red-brown in colour. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 6 metres and grows to a width of approx. 5 metres.

The evergreen leaves of the Portugal laurel are dark green, lanceolate, glossy and alternate. They are about 6 - 12 cm in size.

Care

- Hardy but frost-sensitive potted plants must be winterised before the first cold days. To do this, the pot can be wrapped with fleece, coconut or straw mats, jute or bubble wrap. Evergreen plants also need to be watered on frost-free winter days.
- Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.
