The Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster multiflorus) is a loose, overhanging shrub with decorative, red, round fruits. It produces white flowers arranged in umbrella clusters from May to June. The Cotoneaster also has egg-shaped, medium-green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained soil, it usually reaches a height of around 3 metres and is around 4 metres wide.

Growth

Cotoneaster is a loose and overhanging shrub. It usually reaches a height of 2 - 3 m and is approx. 2 - 4 m wide. It usually grows 15 - 25 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Cotoneaster multiflorus are smooth, reddish-brown.

The deciduous leaves of the Cotoneaster are medium green, ovate, alternate. They are about 2 - 6 cm in size. Cotoneaster turns bright yellow-red in autumn.

Flower

The white flowers of Cotoneaster appear in umbrella clusters from May to June.

Fruit

The red, round fruits of Cotoneaster multiflorus are particularly decorative. These appear from September.

Root

Cotoneaster multiflorus is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms sparsely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Cotoneaster has good frost hardiness.
