From these, normally in October, come red, round fruits. In a sunny to partial shade, sheltered location with well-drained, rich in nutrients, sandy, loamy, undemanding soil, it usually reaches a height of about 50 cm and grows about 1 m wide.

Growth

Flat, creeping. The Cotoneaster microphyllus 'Cochleatus' is a slow growing plant.

Flower

The white flowers appear von May bis June.

Fruit

The red, round berries of the Cotoneaster microphyllus 'Cochleatus' are especially decorative. They appear from October onwards.

Roots

Cotoneaster microphyllus 'Cochleatus' is a shallow roots or heart root.

Location

Prefers any sheltered location with sunny or partial shade.
This is a frost resistant plant.

No special requirements.

Use

As a cut plant, for group planting, as an ornamental tree, as grave planting, as bird protection and food plant

Care

A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.In order to increase the vigour, and the willingness to flower, the plant should be cut back a hand's breadth above the ground every 3-5 years.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except during frost or summer heat (over 30°C).
