The Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster divaricatus) is a spreading, umbrella-shaped shrub with decorative, dark red, oval fruits. It produces white flowers in June. The Cotoneaster also has shiny, egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of around 3 metres and grows to a width of around 8 metres. The Cotoneaster makes no particular demands on the soil.

Growth

Cotoneaster is a spreading, umbrella-shaped shrub. It usually reaches a height of 2 - 3 m and is approx. 1 - 8 m wide. It usually grows 20 - 40 cm per year.

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of the Cotoneaster are dark green, ovate, glossy and alternate. They are about 1 - 3 cm in size. Cotoneaster turns bright orange-red in autumn.

Flower

The white flowers appear in June.

Fruit

The dark red, oval fruits of Cotoneaster divaricatus are particularly decorative. These appear from August.

Root

Cotoneaster divaricatus is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Cotoneaster has good frost hardiness.
