The Black lily magnolia 'Nigra' (Magnolia liliiflora) is a large, multi-stemmed shrub that produces pink, funnel-shaped flowers. They appear from April to May. With the right care, the Black lily magnolia 'Nigra' will flower again in September. The Black lily magnolia 'Nigra' also has shiny, egg-shaped, dark green leaves. Its bark is grey and smooth. In a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected location with well-drained, humus-rich, acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 4 metres and grows to a width of approx. 4 metres.

The deciduous leaves of Black lily magnolia 'Nigra' are dark green, ovate, glossy, alternate. They are about 10 - 15 cm in size. Black lily magnolia 'Nigra' turns bright yellow in autumn.

Grey, smooth bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The pink-red, funnel-shaped flowers appear from April to May. These grow to around 10 - 12 cm tall. With proper care, re-flowering in September.
