The Star magnolia (Magnolia stellata) is a dense, branched shrub that produces white, star-shaped flowers with a pleasant fragrance. They appear from March to April. The Star magnolia also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. Its bark is grey and smooth. In a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 3 metres and grows to a width of around 3 metres.

The deciduous leaves of Star magnolia are dark green, ovate, alternate. They are about 6 - 10 cm in size. Star magnolia turns bright yellow in autumn.

Bark

Grey, smooth bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

The white, star-shaped flowers appear from March to April. They grow to around 7 - 10 cm and are pleasantly fragrant.

Root

Magnolia stellata is a shallow-rooting plant.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny, sheltered position.
