The Dwarf birch also has roundish, medium green leaves. Its bark is black-brown and flaking. In a sunny location with well-drained, humus-rich, sandy, acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 1.2 m and grows to approx. 1.2 m wide.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Dwarf birch are medium green, roundish, alternate, crenate. They are about 1 cm in size. Dwarf birch turns bright orange-red to yellow in autumn.

Bark

Black-brown, flaking bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Betula nana is a shallow-rooted tree.
