The Erman's birch (Betula ermanii) is a broad, loose tree that produces greenish-yellow flowers arranged in catkins. They appear in April. These produce light brown fruits. The Erman's birch also has heart-shaped, medium green leaves. Its bark is creamy white, rolling. In a sunny location, it usually reaches a height of around 20 metres and grows to a width of around 10 metres. The Erman's birch makes no special demands on the soil.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Erman's birch are medium green, heart-shaped and alternate. They are about 8 - 10 cm in size. Erman's birch turns a bright golden yellow in autumn.

Bark

Creamy white, rolling bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The greenish-yellow flowers of Erman's birch appear in catkins in April.

Root

Betula ermanii is a shallow-rooted plant and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny position.

The Erman's birch has good frost hardiness.
