The Lawson cypress 'Columnaris' (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) is a small tree that grows upright, columnar and usually reaches a height of around 6 metres and a width of around 2 metres. Its scale-like leaves are blue in colour. This shrub is well tolerant of frost and prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soil in a sunny to shady position.

Growth

Lawson cypress 'Columnaris' is an upright and columnar small tree with an opaque crown. It usually reaches a height of 4 - 6 m and is approx. 1 - 2 m wide. It usually grows 15 - 20 cm per year.

Leaves

The Lawson cypress 'Columnaris' is evergreen. Its needles are blue, opposite, scaly.

Root

Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Columnaris' is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to shady position.

Frost hardiness
