Conifers Decorate All Year Round

"Conifers offer you exactly that. They're easy to care for, evergreen, and above all, beautifully shaped. And thanks to diverse growth forms, conifers can take on various functions in the garden.

For example, creeping and carpet junipers are often planted as groundcovers in parks and front gardens."

Form-Nadelgehölze: Augenweide groß in Form

"For those who love the monumental forms of native and exotic conifers, you can delight in junipers, cypresses, yews, Bhutan pine, cedars, and especially redwoods. Admittedly, such trees require a significant amount of space to develop their full natural beauty. But if you have a large garden, you won't want to miss the beauty of such a mature specimen.

If space is limited, you can gladly opt for one of the numerous dwarf varieties. It's primarily pines, junipers, and firs that are offered as dwarf forms in specialized nurseries. These species grow slowly and compactly, forming beautiful, sculptural shapes. These conifers elegantly extend their needles upwards in many colors. The palette ranges from silvery to blue tones, but yellow to rich green and dark needles are also possible.

It goes without saying that such a plant should stand alone to make its impact. However, it's always advisable to plant wild garlic, ivy, ferns, or other green and flowering groundcovers at the base of such a magnificent specimen for a stylish touch."

"Junipers, cypresses, and Thujas are very popular as privacy screens, but they require annual to semi-annual pruning to stay beautiful and in shape. However, they will grow into reliably dense hedges if planted about 50 cm apart.

To give your new, potted conifers the best possible start, it's best to plant them in late summer in a sunny location. Conifers offered with root balls, on the other hand, should only be planted in late autumn, or better yet, early in the year, not too deep into holes that are about one and a half times the size of the root ball. Finally, remove the burlap wrapping so that the roots can develop and spread well.

Give the conifers a supporting stake and water them regularly."
