The Japanese quince (Chaenomeles japonica) is a sprawling small shrub with decorative, yellow, orange-coloured, pear-shaped fruits. It produces red flowers from May to June. The Japanese quince also has egg-shaped, medium-green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of approx. 1.5 metres and grows to a width of approx. 1.2 metres. The Japanese quince makes no special demands on the soil.

Japanese quince is a sprawling small shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1 - 1.5 m and is approx. 0.8 - 1.2 m wide. It usually grows 20 - 40 cm per year.

Flower

The red flowers appear from May to June.

Fruit

The yellow, orange-coloured, pear-shaped fruits of Chaenomeles japonica are particularly decorative. These appear from September.

The Japanese quince has good frost hardiness.
