Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter Fire'

Common dogwood 'Midwinter Fire' is an upright and spreading shrub. It usually reaches a height of 2 - 4 m and is approx. 2 - 4 m wide. Slow-growing.

The shoots of Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter Fire' are red.

The deciduous leaves of the Common dogwood 'Midwinter Fire's are light green, ovate, opposite and wavy. They are about 5 - 12 cm in size. Common dogwood 'Midwinter Fire' is bright orange-yellow in autumn.

The creamy white flowers of Common dogwood 'Midwinter Fire' appear in umbrella clusters from May to June. These grow to around 4 - 8 cm in size.

The black, round drupes of Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter Fire' are particularly decorative. They appear in September and are small.

Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter Fire' is a heartroot and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched, runner-forming roots.

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Common dogwood 'Midwinter Fire' has good frost hardiness.

Normal soil.

The plant has a medium water requirement.

To maintain the intensive bark colouring in winter, all shoots older than three years are removed in spring before budding. If the entire shrub is old and withered, it is best to cut it back completely 10 to 20 cm above the ground.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
