The Eastern redbud 'Forest Pansy' (Cercis canadensis) is a spreading, picturesque, broad, loose large shrub or small tree that produces pink, butterfly-shaped flowers arranged in clusters. They appear from April to May. The Eastern redbud 'Forest Pansy' also has heart-shaped, purple-red leaves. The bright red shoots are also an interesting sight. In a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained, calcareous, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 4 metres and grows to around 4 metres wide.

The deciduous leaves of the Eastern redbud 'Forest Pansy's are purple-red, heart-shaped, alternate. They are about 8 - 14 cm tall. Bright red shoots. Eastern redbud 'Forest Pansy' turns bright red-brown in autumn.

The pink, butterfly-shaped flowers of Eastern redbud 'Forest Pansy' appear in clusters from April to May.

Root

Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' is a deep-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Preferred location in a sunny, sheltered position.
