The Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) is an umbrella-shaped, picturesque large shrub or tree that produces red flowers. They appear in April. These produce greenish fruits. The Katsura tree also has matt, roundish green leaves. The copper-brown shoots are also an interesting sight. Its bark is dark grey and longitudinally furrowed. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, sandy, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 12 m and is approx. 6 m wide.
