The Chinese juniper 'Suecica' (Juniperus communis) is a large shrub that grows columnar and usually reaches a height of around 5 metres and a width of around 1.6 metres. Its needle-shaped leaves are blue-green in colour. Decorative black-brown cones adorn Juniperus communis 'Suecica' from September. This shrub is well tolerant of frost and prefers well-drained soil in a sunny position.

Columnar. The Juniperus communis 'Suecica' is a slow growing plant.

Bark

Grey, torn in strips bark makes this plant an eyecatcher.

Fruit

The black brown cones of the Juniperus communis 'Suecica' are especially decorative. They appear from September onwards.

As a solitary plant, in the heather garden, in parks, as bird protection and food plant, for liqueurs

Care

This plant is vulnerable to snow pressure. In snowy areas it is therefore advisable to wrap the branches with a cord. Otherwise, they can unfold and possibly not fully recover. Of course, when the snow season is over, the cords have to be removed again.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except during frost or summer heat (over 30°C).
