The Flowering dogwood (Cornus florida) is a spreading, broad, large shrub with decorative, scarlet-red, oval fruits. It produces white flowers from May to June. The Flowering dogwood also has lanceolate, dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, loose, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 6 metres and grows to a width of around 6 metres.
