The Common hydrangea 'Bodensee' (Hydrangea macrophylla) is a bushy, upright, compact small shrub that produces blue, cupped flowers arranged in umbels. They appear from June to September. In a semi-shady to shady location with humus-rich, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 2 metres and grows to a width of around 2 metres.

Growth

Common hydrangea 'Bodensee' is a bushy, upright and compact small shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1.5 - 2 m and is approx. 1.5 - 2 m wide. It usually grows 15 - 50 cm per year.

Flower

The blue, cupped flowers of Common hydrangea 'Bodensee' appear in umbels from June to September.

Root

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bodensee' is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in semi-shady to shady position.

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

- Remove old inflorescences and dry wood in spring.
- This plant should only be watered with lime-free water. Rainwater is particularly suitable for this purpose.
- Over the years, blue-flowering hydrangeas will often only produce pink flowers. To prevent this, 'Hydrangea Blue' can be used to help. It contains the aluminium responsible for the blue colouring.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
