The White dogwood 'Spaethii' (Cornus alba) is a bushy, upright, broad shrub with decorative, round fruits. It produces white flowers arranged in umbels from May to June. The White dogwood 'Spaethii' also has egg-shaped, medium green leaves with a yellow edge. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, moist to wet soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 3 metres and grows to a width of approx. 3 metres.

White dogwood 'Spaethii' is a bushy, upright and broad-growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 2 - 3 m and is approx. 1.5 - 3 m wide. It usually grows 40 - 60 cm per year.

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of the White dogwood 'Spaethii's are medium green, ovate, opposite, with entire margins and a yellow edge. They are around 4 - 8 cm in size. White dogwood 'Spaethii' is bright orange in autumn.

Dark red bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The white flowers of White dogwood 'Spaethii' appear in umbels from May to June.

Fruit

The round fruits of Cornus alba 'Spaethii' are particularly decorative.

Care

To maintain the intensive bark colouring in winter, all shoots older than three years are removed in spring before budding. If the entire shrub is old and withered, it is best to cut it back completely 10 to 20 cm above the ground.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
