The Climbing Strawberry 'Klettermax' CAC (Fragaria x ananassa) is a popular, high-yielding, and everbearing cultivar of the garden strawberry, renowned for its exceptional growth habit. It forms long runners that can be trained upwards along trellises or other supports, allowing for vertical greenery. From June until the first frost, it continuously produces medium to large, glossy red, and sweet fruits. In addition, Climbing Strawberry 'Klettermax'® bears robust green, trifoliate leaves that remain attractive throughout the year. In a sunny to semi-shady location with humus-rich, well-drained, and nutrient-rich soil, it typically reaches a runner length of approx. 1.5 - 2 m and is excellent for containers, hanging baskets, and raised beds. The "CAC" designation stands for "Certifié Agriculture Conformité" (Certified Agricultural Conformity) and indicates compliance with specific quality standards in plant production, ensuring high varietal purity and plant health.

Growth

Climbing Strawberry 'Klettermax' is a runner-forming, climbing perennial. It produces long shoots that can reach a length of approx. 1.5 - 2 m and grow upwards when tied to supports. It typically develops a width of about 0.3 - 0.5 m.

Leaf

The evergreen leaves of Climbing Strawberry 'Klettermax' are dark green, trifoliate (composed of three leaflets), and toothed. They are robust and remain attractive for most of the year.

Flower

The numerous small, white flowers appear continuously from June until the first frost. They are typical strawberry blossoms and provide a beautiful backdrop for the red fruits.

Fruit

The fruits are medium to large, glossy red, juicy, and sweet in taste. 'Klettermax' is an everbearing variety, meaning it produces fruits over a long period (June to frost), with its main harvest in summer.

Root

Fragaria 'Klettermax' is a shallow-rooted plant that forms a dense, fibrous root system and propagates via runners (stolons).

Location

Preferred location in sunny to semi-shady position. Full sun promotes fruit quality and yield.

Frost hardiness

Climbing Strawberry 'Klettermax' exhibits good frost hardiness. Light winter protection may be beneficial in very cold regions or when grown in containers.

Soil

Humus-rich, well-drained, fresh to moist, and nutrient-rich soil is preferred. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (pH 5.5 - 6.5) is ideal. Waterlogging should be avoided.

Use

Container planting, hanging baskets, raised beds, vertical gardens, trellised planting. It is excellent for balconies and patios, providing both ornamental value and edible fruits. Ideal for fresh consumption, jams, and desserts.

Water

The plant has a medium water requirement. The soil should always be kept moist but not waterlogged, especially during fruit development.

Care

A special strawberry fertilizer or slow-release fertilizer can be used in spring. Regular tying of the runners to the climbing support is necessary, as the plant does not climb on its own. Withered leaves and old runners should be removed to promote vitality.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen or during extreme heat. However, the best planting time is spring or autumn.
