The Black walnut (Juglans nigra) is a spreading, broad, large tree that produces greenish-yellow flowers. They appear from April to May. Brown, round nuts emerge from these from the end of August. Their bark is black and deeply fissured. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, calcareous, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 25 metres and grows to a width of around 30 metres.
