The Wrinkled viburnum (Viburnum rhytidophyllum) is a large, overhanging shrub with decorative, red, oval fruits. These exude a pleasant fragrance. It produces creamy white flowers arranged in umbrella clusters from May to June. The Wrinkled viburnum also has lanceolate, dark green leaves. In a sunny to shady, wind-protected location with humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 5 metres and grows to around 4 metres wide.

Growth

Wrinkled viburnum is a large shrub that grows overhanging. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 5 m and is approx. 3 - 4 m wide.

The evergreen leaves of the Wrinkled viburnum are dark green, lanceolate and opposite. They are about 8 - 18 cm in size.

Flower

The creamy white flowers of the Wrinkled viburnum appear in umbrella clusters from May to June. These are pleasantly fragrant.

Fruit

The red, oval drupes of Viburnum rhytidophyllum are particularly decorative. These appear from August.

Root

Viburnum rhytidophyllum is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to shady, wind-protected position.

The Wrinkled viburnum has good frost hardiness.

Care

- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
