The Japanese snowball 'Watanabe' (Viburnum plicatum) is an upright, broad, roundish small shrub that produces white flowers arranged in umbels with a strong fragrance. They appear from July to August. With the right care, the Japanese snowball 'Watanabe' blooms again from October to November. These produce black-red, oval fruits. They exude a strong fragrance. The Japanese snowball 'Watanabe' also has egg-shaped, medium green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 2 metres and grows to around 1.8 metres wide.

Growth

Japanese snowball 'Watanabe' is an upright, broad and rounded small shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1.2 - 2 m and is approx. 1 - 1.8 m wide. Slow-growing.

Shoots

The shoots of Viburnum plicatum 'Watanabe' are tomentose, light brown in colour.

The deciduous leaves of the Japanese snowball 'Watanabe's are medium green, ovate, opposite, toothed. They are about 4 - 10 cm in size. Japanese snowball 'Watanabe' turns a bright burgundy red in autumn.

Flower

The white, double flowers of Japanese snowball 'Watanabe' appear in clusters from July to August. These are strongly scented. With the right care, re-flowering from October to November.

Viburnum plicatum 'Watanabe' is a shallow-rooting plant.

Care

- Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.
