The Viburnum (Viburnum farreri) is a bushy, dense shrub that produces light pink flowers arranged in panicles with a strong fragrance. They appear from November to March. The Viburnum also has lanceolate, medium green leaves. Its bark is brown and fissured in strips. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of approx. 3 metres and grows to a width of approx. 2.5 metres. The Viburnum makes no special demands on the soil.

North America to northern China.

Growth

Viburnum is a bushy and dense growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 2 - 3 m and is approx. 1.75 - 2.5 m wide. It usually grows 10 - 25 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Viburnum farreri are smooth, reddish-brown.

The deciduous leaves of the Viburnums are medium green, lanceolate and opposite. They are about 6 - 8 cm in size. Viburnum is bright red to purple-violet in autumn.

Bark

Brown, striped, torn bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The light pink-coloured flowers of Viburnum appear in panicles from November to March. They are strongly scented.

Root

Viburnum farreri is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms runner-forming roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected position.

The Viburnum has good frost hardiness.

Care
