The Swamp blueberry 'Patriot' (Vaccinium corymbosum) produces dark blue, very large berries. They are firm and have a sweet and sour flavour. Humus-rich, sandy, slightly acidic soil and a sunny to semi-shady location create the ideal conditions for a high-yielding harvest from July. With its bushy and broad growth, the Swamp blueberry 'Patriot' grows to around 2 metres high and 2 metres wide, making it ideal for growing in pots on balconies or terraces.

Growth

Swamp blueberry 'Patriot' is a bushy and wide-growing small shrub that can reach a height of 1 - 2 m and a width of 1 - 2 m. Slow-growing.

Fruit

The dark blue, very large berries have a sweet and sour flavour. The blue-grey flesh of these round, flat berries is firm. Ripening time from July.

Root

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Patriot' is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Swamp blueberry 'Patriot' has good frost hardiness.

Soil

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Patriot' prefers nutrient-rich, sufficiently moist soil.

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

- This plant should only be watered with lime-free water. Rainwater is particularly suitable for this purpose.
- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
