The Swamp blueberry 'Bluecrop' (Vaccinium corymbosum) produces dark blue, very large berries. They are firm and have a sweet and sour flavour. Humus-rich, sandy, slightly acidic soil and a sunny to semi-shady location create the ideal conditions for a high-yielding harvest from the end of July. Its light pink flowers are a beautiful sight. With its bushy, broad and shrub-like growth, Swamp blueberry 'Bluecrop' grows to around 1.2 metres high and 1 metre wide, making it ideal for growing in pots on balconies or terraces.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of Swamp blueberry 'Bluecrop' are dark green, lanceolate, alternate. Swamp blueberry 'Bluecrop' turns bright orange-yellow in autumn.

Flower

The light pink, cup-shaped flowers appear from May to June.

Fruit

The dark blue, very large berries have a sweet-sour flavour. The flesh of these round berries is firm. Ripening time from the end of July.

Root

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Bluecrop' is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Swamp blueberry 'Bluecrop' has good frost hardiness.

Soil

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Bluecrop' prefers nutrient-rich, sufficiently moist soil.
Commercially available container plant soil.

Use

Tub, bee pasture, bog bed, jam, baking, dessert

Water

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

- This plant should only be watered with lime-free water. Rainwater is particularly suitable for this purpose.
- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
