The Elm 'New Horizon' -S- RESISTA -R- (Ulmus) is a medium-sized tree with a dense, broadly oval to ovate growth habit. It produces inconspicuous flowers that appear from March to April. These later develop into brown, flat winged fruits. In addition, the Elm 'New Horizon'® bears broadly ovate, dark green leaves that take on an attractive yellow autumn color. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, loose, nutrient-rich, moist soil, it typically reaches a height of approximately 15 - 20 m and grows to about 10 - 15 m wide.

Leaf

The deciduous leaves of the Elm 'New Horizon'® are dark green, broadly ovate, alternate, and doubly serrated. They are about 8 - 12 cm in size and display an attractive yellow to golden-yellow coloration in autumn.

Flower

The inconspicuous flowers appear from March to April.

Soil

Normal soil. It prefers a well-drained, fresh to moist, and nutrient-rich soil but is very adaptable and tolerates dry or compacted soils better than many other elm species.

Root

Ulmus 'New Horizon'® is a heart-rooted tree that develops a strong, far-reaching root system.

Frost hardiness

The Elm 'New Horizon'® exhibits very good frost hardiness.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen or during summer heat (above 30°C).

Care

A long-term fertilizer can be used in spring. This releases nutrients slowly and continuously, ensuring that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period. Regular pruning is generally not necessary but can be done to correct growth.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position. It is highly tolerant of urban climates and resistant to various environmental conditions.

Use

Avenue and street tree, city tree, solitary tree, park tree. Its excellent resistance to Dutch Elm Disease, combined with its adaptability and vigor, makes it a popular choice for new and replacement plantings in urban areas.

Water

The plant has a medium water requirement. Additional watering may be necessary during prolonged dry periods, especially in the first few years after planting.

Growth

Elm 'New Horizon'® is a dense and broadly oval to ovate growing tree with a compact crown. It typically reaches a height of 15 - 20 m and grows to about 10 - 15 m wide.
