The Holm oak (Quercus ilex) is a spherical small tree with decorative, grey-green, oval fruits. It produces creamy white flowers arranged in catkins from April to May. The Holm oak also has leathery, egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 12 metres and grows to a width of around 9 metres.
