The Gorse (Ulex europaeus) is a bushy, upright small shrub that produces dark yellow, butterfly-shaped flowers with a light fragrance. They appear from April to June. Dark brown, pod-shaped fruits emerge from these from July. They exude a light fragrance. The Gorse also has trifoliate, medium green leaves. In a sunny location with well-drained, lime-free, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 2 metres and grows to around 2 metres wide.
