These produce brown, oval fruits. The Scarlet oak also bears shiny, egg-shaped, medium green leaves. Its bark is dark grey and smooth. In a sunny location with well-drained soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 18 metres and grows to a width of approx. 12 metres.

The deciduous leaves of Scarlet oak are medium green, ovate, glossy, alternate, lobed. They are about 8 - 15 cm in size. Scarlet oak turns a bright scarlet red in autumn.

Bark

Dark grey, smooth bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Root

Quercus coccinea is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms roots close to the surface.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny position.
