The Cherry plum 'Nigra' (Prunus cerasifera) is a roundish, picturesque small tree with decorative, dark red, round fruits. It produces pink-coloured, bowl-shaped flowers from March to April. The Cherry plum 'Nigra' also bears shiny, egg-shaped, black-red leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with calcareous, nutrient-rich, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 7 metres and grows to around 6 metres wide.

The pink-coloured, cupped flowers appear from March to April. They are about 2 - 3 cm in size.

Fruit

The dark red, round fruits of Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' are particularly decorative. These appear from August.

Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' is a deep-rooter and, depending on the soil, forms runner-forming roots.

Care

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
