The Hungarian lilac (Syringa josikaea) is an upright, broad, large shrub that produces purple flowers arranged in panicles with a strong fragrance. They appear from May to June. The Hungarian lilac also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 4 metres and is around 4 metres wide.

The deciduous leaves of the Hungarian lilacs are dark green, ovate, opposite, ciliate. They are about 6 - 12 cm in size. Hungarian lilac is bright orange-yellow in autumn.

Flower

The purple flowers of Hungarian lilac appear in panicles from May to June. They grow to around 10 - 20 cm tall and are strongly scented.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
