Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula'

West Asia to Caucasus.

Willow-leaved pear 'Pendula' is a hanging, picturesque small tree. It usually reaches a height of 4 - 7 m and is approx. 3 - 4 m wide. Slow growing. It usually grows 10 - 20 cm per year.

The shoots of Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' are spiny, tomentose, white.

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of Willow-leaved pear 'Pendula' are silver-grey, lanceolate, matt, alternate. They are about 5 - 6 cm in size. Willow-leaved pear 'Pendula' turns bright yellow in autumn. Long lasting.

Brown bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

The white flowers of Willow-leaved pear 'Pendula' appear in umbels from April to May.

The green, pear-shaped fruits of Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' are particularly decorative. These appear from August.

Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' is a deep-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched roots.

Preferred location in a sunny position.

The Willow-leaved pear 'Pendula' has good frost hardiness.

The plant has a medium water requirement.

- Cut and saw wounds as well as broken branches should be treated with a wound sealant as soon as possible to prevent pathogens from entering the plant.
- This plant does not tolerate heavy soil. If necessary, the soil structure can be improved when planting by working in sand and mature compost.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
