The Rouen lilac 'Saugeana' (Syringa chinensis) is an upright, loose, overhanging large shrub that produces magenta-coloured flowers arranged in panicles with a pleasant fragrance. They appear from May to June. The Rouen lilac 'Saugeana' also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny location with well-drained, calcareous, nutrient-rich, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 4 metres and grows to a width of approx. 4 metres.

The deciduous leaves of the Rouen lilac 'Saugeana's are dark green, ovate, opposite. They are about 6 - 8 cm tall.

Flower

The magenta-coloured flowers of the Rouen lilac 'Saugeana' appear in panicles from May to June. They grow to around 15 - 30 cm tall and are pleasantly fragrant.
