The Snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus) is a bushy, dense shrub with decorative, white, round fruits that stay on for a very long time. It produces light pink, bell-shaped flowers arranged in spikes from June to September. The Snowberry also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of approx. 2 metres and grows to a width of approx. 2.5 metres. The Snowberry makes no particular demands on the soil.

Growth

Snowberry is a bushy and dense growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1.5 - 2 m and is approx. 1.5 - 2.5 m wide. It usually grows 30 - 50 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Symphoricarpos albus var. laevigatus are smooth, grey.

The deciduous leaves of Snowberry are dark green, ovate, opposite, with entire margins. Snowberry turns bright yellow in autumn. Long lasting.

Flower

The light pink, bell-shaped flowers of Snowberry appear in spikes from June to September.

Fruit

The white, round berries of Symphoricarpos albus var. laevigatus are particularly decorative. These appear from November. Very long-lasting.

Root

Symphoricarpos albus var. laevigatus is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched, runner-forming roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Snowberry has good frost hardiness.

Care

- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
- Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.

Pruning

This plant is tolerant of pruning.
