The Dwarf mountain pine (Pinus mugo) is a shrub that grows bushy and sprawling and usually reaches a height of around 4 metres and a width of around 4 metres. Its needle-shaped leaves have a medium green colour. Decorative brown-yellow cones adorn Pinus mugo subsp. mughus from October. This shrub tolerates frost well. It prefers a sunny location. The Dwarf mountain pine makes no special demands on the soil.

Bark

Dark grey, scaly bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Fruit

The conical, brown-yellow cones of Pinus mugo subsp. mughus appear from October. The young cones have a pinkish-red colour.

Root

Pinus mugo subsp. mughus is a heartroot and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched roots close to the surface.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny position.

Care

- If watered less frequently but thoroughly and thoroughly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.
- This plant is susceptible to snow pressure. In snowy areas, it is therefore advisable to wrap the branches with string. Otherwise, they may split apart and not fully recover. When the snow season is over, the strings must of course be removed again.
