The Dwarf mountain pine (Pinus mugo) is a large shrub that grows sprawling, multi-stemmed and usually reaches a height of around 6 metres and a width of around 5 metres. Its needle-shaped leaves are dark green in colour. Decorative brown-yellow cones adorn Pinus mugo from October. This shrub tolerates frost well. It prefers a sunny to semi-shady location. The Dwarf mountain pine makes no special demands on the soil.

Bark

Dark grey, scaly bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Fruit

The conical, brown-yellow cones of Pinus mugo appear from October. The young cones have a pinkish-red colour.

Pinus mugo is a heartroot and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched roots close to the surface.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Dwarf mountain pine has good frost hardiness.

The plant has a medium water requirement.

Care
