The Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) is an umbrella-shaped, picturesque large tree with decorative, red-brown pods that stay on for a very long time. These exude a pleasant fragrance. It produces light green flowers arranged in clusters from June to July. The Honey locust also has pinnate, light green leaves. In a sunny location, it usually reaches a height of around 30 metres and grows to a width of around 20 metres. The Honey locust makes no particular demands on the soil.

Honey locust is an umbrella-shaped, picturesque large tree with a translucent, loose crown. It usually reaches a height of 10 - 30 m and is approx. 8 - 20 m wide. It usually grows 20 - 30 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Gleditsia triacanthos are spiny, olive green.

The deciduous leaves of the Honey locusts are light green, pinnate and alternate. They are about 3 - 4 cm in size. Honey locust is bright golden yellow in autumn.

Bark

Dark grey, scaly bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The light green flowers of Honey locust appear in clusters from June to July. They are pleasantly fragrant.

Fruit

The red-brown fruits of Gleditsia triacanthos are particularly decorative. These appear from September. Keep for a very long time.
