The Common osier (Salix viminalis) is an upright, broad, large shrub that produces golden yellow flowers arranged in catkins. They appear from April to May. The Common osier also has lanceolate, dark green leaves. Its bark is grey. In a sunny location with well-drained, calcareous, nutrient-rich, moist to wet soil, it usually reaches a height of around 8 metres and grows to a width of around 6 metres.

Common osier is an upright and broad-growing large shrub. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 8 m and is approx. 3 - 6 m wide. It usually grows 0.5 - 1 m per year.

The shoots of Salix viminalis are greenish-yellow.

Bark

Grey bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Salix viminalis is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched roots.
