The Almond-leaved willow (Salix triandra) is an upright large shrub or small tree that produces yellow flowers arranged in catkins with a light fragrance. They appear from April to May. The Almond-leaved willow also has lanceolate, medium green leaves. The green-red shoots are also an interesting sight. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, loose soil, it usually reaches a height of around 8 metres and grows to around 6 metres wide.

Growth

Almond-leaved willow is an upright-growing large shrub or small tree. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 8 m and is approx. 2 - 6 m wide. As a rule, it grows 0.4 - 1 m per year.

The deciduous leaves of the Almond-leaved willow are medium green, lanceolate, toothed. Green-red shoots. Almond-leaved willow turns bright yellow in autumn.

Flower

The yellow flowers of Almond-leaved willow appear in catkins from April to May. These are slightly scented.

Salix triandra is a shallow-rooting plant.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Almond-leaved willow has good frost hardiness.

Water

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
