The Creeping willow (Salix repens) is a flat, creeping, deciduous dwarf shrub with decorative, hairy, egg-shaped, grey leaves. The silver-white shoots are also an interesting sight. It also bears yellow catkin-shaped flowers from April to May. In a sunny location with well-drained, loose, sandy soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 50 cm and is approx. 1 m wide.

Growth

Creeping willow is a flat and creeping dwarf shrub. It usually reaches a height of 30 - 50 cm and is approx. 0.5 - 1 m wide.

Shoots

The shoots of Salix repens subsp. dunensis are tomentose, grey.

Leaves

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of the Creeping willow are grey, ovate, hairy, alternate. Silver-white shoots.

Flower

The yellow flowers of Creeping willow appear in catkins from April to May. These grow to about 1 - 2 cm in size.

Root

Salix repens subsp. dunensis is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms extensive branching roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny position.

The Creeping willow has good frost hardiness.
