The Silver berry (Elaeagnus commutata) is a bushy, broad shrub that produces yellow, funnel-shaped flowers with a strong fragrance. They appear from May to June. Dark brown, elongated fruits emerge from September. They exude a strong fragrance. The Silver berry also has egg-shaped, silver-grey leaves. In a sunny location with well-drained, calcareous, sandy, dry soil, it usually reaches a height of around 5 metres and grows to a width of around 5 metres.

Silver berry is a bushy and broad-growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 5 m and is approx. 3 - 5 m wide.

Shoots

The shoots of Elaeagnus commutata are reddish-brown.

The deciduous leaves of the Silver berry are silver-grey, ovate and alternate. They are about 8 - 10 cm in size.

Flower

The yellow, funnel-shaped flowers appear from May to June. They are strongly scented.

Elaeagnus commutata is a taproot and, depending on the soil, forms stoloniferous roots.
