The Cherry plum 'Trailblazer' (Prunus cerasifera) is a bushy, dense, loose small tree that produces creamy white, cupped flowers with a light fragrance. They appear from April to May. They produce red, round fruits from August. They exude a light fragrance. The Cherry plum 'Trailblazer' also has egg-shaped, green-red leaves. The bronze-coloured shoots are also an interesting sight. In a sunny to semi-shady location with calcareous, nutrient-rich, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 7 metres and grows to around 6 metres wide.

Growth

Cherry plum 'Trailblazer' is a bushy, dense and loose-growing small tree. It usually reaches a height of 5 - 7 m and is approx. 3 - 6 m wide.

The shoots of Prunus cerasifera 'Trailblazer' are spiny.

The deciduous leaves of the Cherry plum 'Trailblazer' are green-red, ovate and alternate. They are about 5 - 7 cm in size. Bronze-coloured shoots. Cherry plum 'Trailblazer' turns a bright dark red in autumn.

Flower

The creamy white, cupped flowers appear from April to May. They grow to around 2 - 3 cm in size and are slightly fragrant.

Fruit

The red drupes have a sweet flavour. The flesh of these round drupes is juicy. Ripening time from August.

Root

Prunus cerasifera 'Trailblazer' is a deep-rooter and, depending on the soil, forms runner-forming roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Cherry plum 'Trailblazer' has good frost hardiness.

Care

- Fruit trees planted in spring must be watered generously throughout the summer. Well-rooted plants only require additional water in extremely dry conditions.
- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
